How to moderate YouTube comments without reviewing everything manually

The best moderation workflow uses filters, blocked words, and triage so your team spends time on edge cases, not obvious noise.

Use blocked words as a first layer

Blocked words reduce repetitive noise, scams, harassment, and obvious low-quality promos before they reach your main workflow.

This does not solve everything, but it removes the cheapest forms of noise so moderators can focus on real judgment calls.

Separate spam from real complaints

One of the biggest mistakes is treating all negative comments as moderation problems. Many negative comments are actually support or product signals, not abuse.

You need a workflow that distinguishes spam, harassment, support friction, and legitimate criticism.

Review by video and pattern

Moderation gets much easier when you can see which videos are attracting repeated spam, repeated complaints, or a sudden shift in tone. Pattern-level review beats one-by-one firefighting.
